What will be the event trend of 2020?
Published on 6 February 2020
To adapt to a demanding and constantly changing audience, the events sector must take guests’ expectations and concerns into account. The environment, experience creation and disconnection… What will be the event trend of 2020?
Event trend no. 1: eco-responsible events
Although environmental protection is already an established issue in the events world, it will be even more present in 2020.
Stakeholders, from organisers to suppliers, are mobilising to reduce the environmental impact of events and thereby obtain the ISO 20121 standard. The aim of this standard is to manage the social, economic and environmental impact of events.
To organise an eco-responsible event, several factors must be considered in advance. One of the most important is waste management: how can it be reduced? How can it be recycled? That is why our label has chosen to ban the use of plastic tableware in its venues in order to limit waste production.
Guest transport, the goodies given out, the decoration and the choice of caterer must also be taken into account so that the event is part of a responsible approach.
To help players in the events sector organise eco-responsible events, many agencies offer their services. Our partner caterers 4810 Réceptions and Té Traiteur are indeed committed both socially and environmentally. 4810 Réceptions, for example, works with the association La Tablée des Chefs to redistribute its surplus food, fight waste and get involved in educational and reintegration programmes.

No. 2: strong experiences
In 2020, experience creation continues to excite the events sector. Whether it is to surprise guests or to spice up a team-building session, it is important to create a unique experience that will remain a pleasant memory for all participants.
A few activity ideas your guests will not forget in a hurry:
- Insect tasting : entertaining and original, this activity gives guests an experience rich in emotions (surprise, discovery, laughter…). Insect tasting also raises guests’ awareness of current issues such as reducing meat consumption and the environmental impact of its production.
- Virtual reality: this experience, which immerses guests in an artificial world, places participants at the heart of the activity and so creates positive, intense memories thanks to this immersion.
No. 3: disconnection
With overloaded schedules, it is often hard to find time to relax and disconnect. The “disconnection” factor can be built into an event in different ways.
Depending on the event venue, it is possible to offer relaxation areas dedicated to disconnection and calm. Decor and atmosphere then play an important role: it is advisable to favour neutral colours, offer to leave your phone in the cloakroom, and so on. A smoothie bar or a yoga class can also help guests immerse themselves in this relaxing atmosphere.

Greenery is also a very good way to disconnect, particularly in big cities. Organising an event in a garden or a green space lets participants escape for a day or an evening. The Atelier 1664 shows this every spring by taking over the garden of the Cercle LeBrun to let its guests enjoy a green space in the heart of Paris
Environmental concerns and the importance of emotion will therefore make up the event trends of 2020. Whether it is creating strong experiences to arouse emotion or simply offering moments of disconnection, the aim is to listen to guests’ wishes and expectations.
