The omnipresence of digital in events

Published on 3 July 2019

Events are a constantly evolving field, notably thanks to advances in new technologies. The presence of digital in events is one of the key factors that lets participants live a genuine experience.

While digital is an effective tool for entertaining and informing participants, its use also proves beneficial for event organisers. Thanks to the many assets they offer, digital platforms have quickly become mainstream in the events sector. The main challenge today is no longer simply to use them, but to use them properly in order to stand out and offer ever more innovative and original events.

The benefits of using digital in events

  • Creating interaction between a speaker and their audience: digital tools can improve talks at conferences by making them more dynamic and captivating. The aim is not to distract attention from the speaker, but on the contrary to highlight their talk by enriching it. For an original digital talk, speakers can, for example, opt for real-time illustrations or the use of holograms.
  • Measuring the success of the event: digital is widely used during events, but it is also effective afterwards to measure their success and return on investment (social media, email contacts…).

Which digital tools should you choose for events?

The term “digital” covers a wide variety of technologies, and some tools have proved particularly interesting in the events field. Among the most popular are live streaming, virtual reality, participatory tools…

The choice of tools must be consistent with the strategy built around the event. Use the most impactful ones when you want to get a clear message across as quickly as possible…  Conversely, if the aim is to entertain guests, digital will be used in a more playful and offbeat way.

How do you make the event unforgettable with digital?

Whatever type of event you plan to put on, the quality of the welcome is a factor not to be neglected. Thanks to digital tools, the countless sheets of paper are a thing of the past, since various apps can make managing guests’ arrival easier. With a smoother, faster welcome, guests and organisers save time, which lets them focus more on quality with a warm, smiling welcome.

To make an event unforgettable, the best approach is still to keep it alive even after it has ended. Social media then play an essential role. To measure an event’s reach on Instagram, the most effective approach is to create a hashtag that lets guests share their photos up to a few days or even weeks after the event. Between the 1st and 2nd editions of the Atelier 1664 at the Cercle LeBrun, for example, the hashtag #atelier1664 was used more than 1,300 times by visitors to the event.
