Team building: making sure it leaves more than good memories

Acute meeting-itis is no longer in fashion. We are all glad of it. But the digital tools that govern communication in business, Skype, Slack, Jive and the like, have created a new desire, even a need, to meet differently. There is no shortage of surveys (and common sense) to convince the last doubters that employees who are happy in their companies are more effective and more productive. Among the tools that support well-being at work, team building has evolved to sit on the border between management consulting and events.
The proven effectiveness of team building
According to a study by Agefi (the French economic and financial news agency), companies increase their effectiveness by 30 % by organising team building.
In times of restructuring or crisis, a successful company is one that shows it is capable of strengthening the group’s relational fabric to overcome every obstacle. But the current enthusiasm for team building must not be the tree that hides the forest: just like software or training, team building is a professional tool… not a magic wand! It must therefore be designed around your objectives, included in a strategy and come with monitoring tools.

5 tips for effective team building:
1. Today’s seminar is no longer top-down, but organised and designed through co-creation with its participants.
2. It is important that your team building takes place outside your premises, where messages are received differently. And to give your employees experiences, you must choose exceptional places.
3. The start-up world is bringing plenty of innovations to offer you the most appealing themes. The activity in itself matters little: the essential thing is that it meets the objectives you have set yourselves.
4. You must place your employees in a context that helps them to let go, so that they feel confident enough to make decisions.
