The role of goodies in events

Published on 5 September 2019

Offering your guests a gift bag filled with goodies at an event shows particular consideration for them while also putting an effective communication action into practice, provided the items given are chosen strategically. The role of goodies in events has evolved, and offering a simple pen is no longer enough! Today you have to think further to offer responsible, trendy goodies that guests will want to keep once the event is over.

The place of goodies today

Promotional gifts bearing the image of a brand or a company have become essential elements in organising an event. From the most basic goodies to the most sophisticated, they reflect brands’ desire to use experiential marketing at their event. For goodies to play a full part in the guest’s experience, targeting must be as precise as possible: the more personalised the gift, the more it will please!

Relevant, trendy goodies can have good viral potential on social media, and so prove to be excellent event communication tools.

Limiting the environmental impact of goodies

Although goodies are appreciated by guests, it is important to give them wisely. Sometimes of poor quality and made on the other side of the world, goodies are increasingly criticised because of their environmental impact.

Offering responsible goodies, however, is an opportunity for a company to assert its social and environmental approach.

The most interesting example is probably the tote bag. From small designers to institutions and large groups, many companies use this reusable promotional item. It is an excellent alternative to plastic bags, yet its manufacture is particularly polluting and harmful to the environment. Tote bags have become omnipresent among goodies, so much so that we often tend to pile them up at home!

This trendy promotional tool works well as a communication tool, but its environmental impact remains a concern and its use could, in time, harm the brands that use it.

How are goodies evolving in events?

How can goodies keep finding their place in an increasingly digital events environment? It is true that pens and key rings have long been out of favour! Even USB sticks may be considered obsolete by many companies.

Guests are increasingly won over by digital gifts! It all depends, of course, on the event budget, but among the favourite digital goodies are portable batteries, key finders, mini drones…

Ecological transition and the digital revolution: events are a constantly evolving field. The gifts offered to an event’s guests are affected by these transitions, and these changes make it possible to offer an ever more personalised service thanks to items that are both trendy and responsible.
