CSR approach: event suppliers are committing!

Published on 7 October 2020

Adopting a responsible, societal and environmental approach is a real challenge for event suppliers. The ephemeral nature of events can hold back the introduction of sustainable solutions, but there is no doubt that awareness is growing so that every event is designed following a genuine CSR approach. Here are some of the companies and organisations working every day to imagine more responsible events for tomorrow.

The waste issue

Waste and its abundance are not inevitable in events; ecological alternatives are many and ever more innovative.

Among the suppliers committed to this cause:

  • Slaam: The company gives event waste a second life. It collects and then resells the materials and wants to set up workshops to raise awareness of reusing objects.
  • Co-recyclage also focuses on recovering objects from companies, the aim being to benefit people in need.
  • Large-scale events using advertising banners can also call on Bilum to recycle banners into everyday objects.

How do you fight an excessive amount of waste? Plastic glasses and cutlery no longer have a place on event buffets. There are far too many sustainable, ecological tableware options to ignore. Les Pailles offers, for example, reusable, biodegradable or edible solutions.

eco-friendly straws

How do you fight food waste? Quite simply by surrounding yourself with catering professionals who commit to throwing nothing away. La Tablée des Chefs or Le Chainon Manquant help redistribute surplus food to families in need and run culinary education and food-waste awareness programmes. Equovevento, the European anti-waste association, is also dedicated to events and goes directly to events to collect the surplus.

Many event caterers commit to donating surpluses on return from a job, and go even further by pursuing a genuine environmental and societal policy. Among them: Té Traiteur, 4810 Réceptions and Grand Chemin. As proof of this commitment, some of them comply with the ISO 20121 standard.

The By Kadrance Cercles’ commitments on waste management:

– Selective waste sorting
– Use of durable tableware and glass bottles
– Cleaning and hygiene products with eco-responsible labels
– Raising suppliers’ awareness of upcycling
– Collection and recycling of cigarette butts with Écomegot

Some associations have both an environmental and a societal impact, such as Weefund which offers digital education to pupils in difficulty through the reuse of our computers.

Solidarity in the events world

There are a thousand ways to show solidarity in business and in the events sector. On 24 and 25 August last, Big Bloom, at the request of the association LEVENEMENT, organised “solidarity hackathons” on the theme “Solutions for a more supportive and inclusive events sector”. By Kadrance took part in these meeting workshops between professionals and associations to reflect on promoting inclusion in the events industry.

Some organisations such as Ethik Connection focus their work on inclusion and offer events that raise teams’ awareness while letting them discover a unique experience.

The By Kadrance Cercles’ commitments on solidarity:

– The Cercle LeBrun hosted La Croix Rouge as a solidarity grocery from May to July 2020.
– To develop their skills and fulfil themselves professionally, the By Kadrance Cercles strive to offer their teams relevant training.
– In 2021, we want to offer our clients a gesture of solidarity by donating a percentage of their service to a charity.
– Every year, we welcome young people on apprenticeships or internships and our teams enjoy sharing their passion for the trade.

Event suppliers are encouraged in their efforts

Professionals in our sector are fortunate to be able to find support from organisations and associations.

  • With the aim of transforming the events and tourism sectors, the forward-looking team at Green Événement, offers personalised support with consulting and training and the creation of the trade show Le Ouaï.
  • As well as raising awareness among players in the sector, the collective Eco-événement brings together on its website the founding documents and essential tools for suppliers wishing to commit sustainably.
  • Comeeti, a professional tool dedicated to professional event organisers, has written a responsible event guide available to download online.

Clients today want suppliers to be proactive in finding solutions to make their events more sustainable. Different labels and certificates can attest to real motivation, such as the ISO 20121 standard.
